As classroom teachers we are constantly promoting the love of reading to all our students.
We are dedicated to the importance of reading daily to our classes. Using great picture books to help teach students strategies and skills that will help them become better readers and writers. Also we know that reading books can open so many doors for a young learner.
Getting books into your students' hands should be your highest priority. We know as educators that the more our students read the better success they will find in school and the better they will perform on state testing. We both believe that there is so much riding on becoming a great reader than passing a test. Being literate can help a young child find great success beyond the classroom walls.
We highly recommend that you start with a few things to start cultivating the love reading in your own classroom.
Create time in your schedule so all child at all ages can sit and enjoy books.
Read at least one picture book to your class daily with along having great discussions.
Send books home with your students daily either by checking books out from the school library or from your classroom library.
Pass on to your students the love of books. If they see that you as a teacher love to read, they will follow suit.
